LISTEN TO THIS BEFORE YOU WORKOUT! – Motivational Workout Speech
most people don’t reach their dream not
because of failure most people don’t
live their dream because they give up
you see it’s not the failure that stops
us but that most stopped at their first
failure
those who succeed don’t stop at one
failure they don’t stop at ten failures
they don’t stop at a hundred one
thousand or million
they say this is Michael and I will do
whatever it takes to achieve I will
learn the lessons from any failures I
would learn faster I will work hard I
will work smarter and I will not quit
until my dream is a reality
that’s the difference between success
and failure failure makes winners
stronger failure makes winners hungry
but it makes most give up it makes most
feel worthless winners don’t enjoy
failure but they would never let failure
stop them next time you encounter
failure you got to remember every great
thing on this planet is here because the
Creator learn what did work but learn
more from what did not work when we are
kids we don’t stop at failure
we first learned to ride a bike it’s
failure after failure we get knocked
down time after time but we get up and
push for it’s a real cheap our goal of
riding the bike but then
we get old
and most of us get weak we are too soft
to get back on the bike we come up with
excuses it must not be for me you know
he’s just so no you just lazy
tell yourself the truth get back on the
bike learn why you fail and make sure
you don’t fall again make sure you are
strong for having the lesson
failure is not the end of your story it
is the start of your combat story if
failure was the end of your story there
would be no great greats like Jordan
greats like Einstein like Edison like
Oprah Winfrey
if these people stopped at failure the
world would not be filled with their
greatness as it is today failure is
nothing but a lesson to the winner
failure is nothing but motivation to the
winner failure is fuel no one likes to
fail but the difference between those
that win and those that lose in life is
the winner decides a better meaning for
their failure they decide never again
they declare I will be better next time
don’t let failure stop you let it grow
you let it develop you failure is not
the end it’s just the start
the start of your comeback story the
only way you can call it a failure is if
you quit if you keep going it’s only a
hurdle one you will overcome the only
way you can fail is if you quit never
quit keep pushing you will get there in
the end
failure doesn’t exist in the mind of a
champion all it does is push them to a
higher level are you a champion
will you accept failure or keep going
let me listen apply the lessons come out
stronger than before and keep going
some people feel for you so much they
never try they never even start
some people give up right when they’re
about to suck see they were so close
when they threw in the towel don’t let
that be you Thomas Edison didn’t fail
he found 10,000 ways that did not work
guess what
he only needed one way that did what
Einstein said failure is success in
progress failure is just one way not to
do something keep going and you will
succeed keep going and you will succeed
failure is not the end of your story and
is the start of your combat story if you
use failure as fuel you can’t really
fail if you use as more of base you
cannot be defeated in the long term if
you use to try use to make it can never
break if you never accept defeat you can
never fail refuse to be defeated
[Music]
refuse to be defeated learned unless
find a new path in a different way to
your goal
there’s always away
the most important thing is that you
have a vision did you have a corn
because without that vision and without
that core again you’re drifting around
and you’re never gonna end up anywhere
people don’t become successful just by
accident you know I mean maybe the guy
that found gold in California and
started the gold rush but don’t count on
that that’s the one in in a lifetime
kind of a situation so you got to really
have a specific order to me to have that
vision that I want to be mr. universe
they didn’t want to be the greatest
bodybuilder of all time that was a great
vision and that specifically they look
like reg Park and to be up there on that
stage and to lift the trophy overhead
and to win the championship
over and over and over again so that was
a great core you have to have a core now
it doesn’t have to be that specific goal
but it has they have some core this is
why I always recommend to people sit
down take your time it’s a thinking
about why do you want the work out what
is your goal and it can’t be as crazy as
this it could be you know I want to
dress girls if that’s your call so be it
but it motivates you it could be that
you’re emulating a certain you know body
book or a certain football player
certain parks or whatever it is half
those pictures put all over the wall
like I did when I was a kid I put
pictures of rich pocket of Sonny Liston
of the boxes and of Ali and of power
lifters and weight lifters all over my
bedroom you know a wall so that everyday
men I go to sleep every day when I wake
up and look at those pictures and they
motivate me you need that motivation and
then therefore you have this kind of
imprint in front of you all the time and
you know exactly what you’re chasing
this is why I always smiled when there
was in the gym people always came up to
mrs. why are you smiling you’re working
out five hours a day you’re doing the
same as the other guys but the other
guys have a sour face they’re pissed off
the death to do another
or another set or something I looked
forward to I looked forward to another
thousand seven reps of of sit-ups I
looked forward to another 500 pounds of
of Lake bridge or squad I look forward
to incur ‘ls until my arms fall off
why because I knew that every rep did
that did and every set that I did and
more weights to the lifted I get one
step closer to turning that vision into
reality so I was turned on by that I was
excited I couldn’t wait to get to the
gym you know one of the things of you
know creating urgency he can go in a one
way or the other because like I remember
that when I weighed 245 pounds and Bob
Rafelson the director of stay hungry
said to me that I’m interested in having
you come in for reading and Brooklyn
you’re acting in orders because I’m
interested in having you in a movie to
start with the chief britches and meet
Sally Fields I was delighted about that
I was excited and I started pumping up
one more and then he said but I don’t
want it to weigh more than 210 pounds so
I said I was a well it’s funny you come
to me if you want me to be in a movie
but I’m going to 45 to 46 I say I just
want the Olympia I say in 1908 was 1974
and I was really at my biggest and but
he demanded that and he says look it’s
very simple and the day we start
shooting he says I’m gonna put you on
the scale and if you don’t make the 210
you out because I have someone else in
mind
and I worked on it I said that
visualizing myself very clearly as a
lean athlete because that’s the only way
I could lose that weight and all of a
sudden get interested in running water
because up until the point of endlich’s
real hours after training or before
training over there but now all of a
sudden it was five miles six mile seven
months eight months and there even when
mini marathons in order to lose the
weight and they did everything in high
reps that was watching my diet but I eat
notice kind of things and by the day the
day before I remember everyone
Birmingham Alabama the day before was at
the YMCA with Bob Rafelson he was
swimming and I was working out and it
was running through the track there that
was running he says let’s step on the
scale and I stepped on the scale in the
way 209 so it just shows you what is
possible if you visualize exactly what
you want to look like so it can go one
way which is the Vig you can lose weight
and get training and slim and everything
get the apps at most or you go the other
way and you gain weight because you see
yourself being you see yourself as a
winner for mr. Olympia or something like
that so it can go either way but in what
would happen to me that year was very
interesting because I had to drop the
way to 210 and then after I was finished
with stay hungry I decided that I go
back in the D Olympia because I actually
in my mind retired in 1974 but because
George Butler and Charles Keynes came to
me and says we’re gonna do pumping iron
not only that you know the book that we
have that was very successful but we
want to do a documentary and we want you
to be in it and otherwise it doesn’t
work we needed you to be in it so I said
okay good I started training again and I
only had three months now from the time
I weigh 210 to go back up again I mean I
didn’t make the 240 anymore I only made
two 232 233
in 1975 but I want the mr. Olympia gain
and this was what pumping iron was all
about and son but in each case it was
like certain time limits were set and I
had to perform and there was no room for
any kind of like our
can get back together anything like this
because there’s only a certain amount of
time but the key thing again is have the
clear vision have the specific core of
what you want to accomplish because then
you never go to the gym and you say the
day I feel down the little bit I don’t
know what it is all about and all my
life I’m confused
no I tell you that I was a perfect
example of someone that was not
confident at all I mean when I was a kid
that was just like any other kid that
had hangups and problems and orders but
when I joined the weightlifting Club and
I warned my first little trophy because
they did the best clean jerk and they
made me to another meet and they want
another little trophy I started feeling
like somebody I started feeling like
when I had lifted the white palm putted
it over my head
put it over my head this way I saw the
people this hundred people that were in
a beer hall usually those weightlifting
meets were in the beer hall they were
getting up and they were screaming
because there was the 16 year old kid I
was the youngest on that weightlifting
team and so they were cheering me on
because there was this young kid that
was performing well so I was getting
little trophies then bigger trophies and
all of a sudden I started really feeling
like wow you know I’m somebody and I can
lift this way then I actually can be a
pretty good weight lifter but actually
you know everyone is saying that Donald
you gaining so much weight and so much
mass I mean you’re gonna go far I’m
telling you you could win the Austrian
championship in no time and you could
win the European Championship
you should I hope you’re taking it
seriously in orders sighs same as a fire
if everyone says that I feel really good
so I started gaining confidence so
that’s how it was then over set them on
the junior mr. Europe and then I want
the mr. Europe and then second mr.
universe so at that time now I was 19
years old I had over 20 inch arms
everyone in London
laughter the Mr Universe contest and
there was nineteen years old they were
standing outside the hotel and say oh
this is the guy so how can you not feel
special so and of course not everyone is
gonna have this kind of a situation but
the bottom line is everyone can use the
same method because I used it and
politics are used it in making money I
used it in everything that I’ve done in
movie business when you have one little
victory well for me the most important
thing always to have a deadline so when
I for instance had a competition and
let’s say the competition was in the
middle of September and it was now
beginning of summer so there was no more
time to screw around so there was the
time now to get going on a diet to get
going with the training to not slack off
at all because there was a deadline
there the day of the competition I had
to be in the best shape possible and I
knew that if I come to the competition
and then lose because I did not schedule
my training the proper way or I didn’t
have the right frame of mind or I didn’t
give everything delivery worked my butt
off I will be just so angry so I never
wanted to be in that situation so this
is why it was very important to pick
that time and to say this is when I have
to be in top shape then the work towards
that but it’s not just with the
competition I mean they’re always the
same in the movie business I mean to me
was always a big advantage when they
said ok my movie starts in April 1 and I
have now three months so I have to get
really in great shape so he picked those
times he could also be that there’s no
movie and you have no mr. Lampe or no
mr. America no mr. a universe coming up
on any of those things but you save
yourself the summer starts in June I’m
gonna go to the beach in June and at
that time I want to be in great shape so
that creates an urgency that makes you
really start training art and taking it
seriously because if you don’t have a
specific plan then you wander around I
mean you can have as I’ve told you many
times the best ship or the best plane in
the world but if you don’t have a
specific core where you want to go
when you want to get there you just
drift around and you never get anywhere
so this is why this is important to
create that urgency and of a specific
time when you want to be in shape the
simple truth is if you don’t have a
vision if you don’t have a goal if you
don’t see your future laid out in front
of you you’re just floating around
without a purpose I always smile
whenever the matter how hard I work I
always had a great time no matter what I
did it didn’t matter wasn’t bodybuilding
or it wasn’t the movies of it was as
governor I remember in the pumping iron
days people asked me in the gym all the
time why are you smiling all the time
why are you so happy you have to live 50
tons of weights you have to train five
hours a day I mean I look at the other
body but it’s faces and lifts the spaces
and they look kind of depressing they
look sour they’re miserable that they
have to lift weights you you don’t look
miserable you look happy and I tell them
always they say I smile because I know
exactly did every rep that I do there
every set that I do every weight that I
live they get one step closer to turning
that vision of mine into reality and
becoming that mr. universe I could not
wait to lift another 500 pounds in the
squats I could not wait to do another
thousand sit-ups I could not wait to do
bench press more bench press and more
curls until I couldn’t move my arms
anymore
because I knew that every rep got me
closer to standing on that stage as a
champion so matter of fact when I lifted
weights I didn’t really feel like I was
lifting weights I felt like I was
lifting a trophy over my head each time
I lift it and they’ll have all those
bodybuilders around me and thousands of
people screaming
