In many life coach training programs you get to learn a lot about how to become a life coach, but very little, (sometimes nothing), about how to get clients, much less about how much you should charge. The actual coaching business is left out or leaves many coaches floundering.
The standard marketing training – for coaches as well as for many other service businesses, such as therapists and consultants – is to look at the competition and assume that you have to pitch your pricing somewhere around the middle of the range you find.
At the top of the tree, however, are names like Tony Robbins, Bob Proctor and Christian Mickelsen.
These people have financial freedom. They got there by changing people’s lives – and that’s what coaches do.
These people command tens, even hundreds of thousands of dollars for a single session or a day’s intensive.
Of course, they have a big following, but if you trace their histories, they were commanding well above average fees for their work even when they were starting out.
The question you have to ask is why were people prepared to pay many times what other coaches, thought leaders and perhaps “shrinks” were charging?
I believe there are three simple yet fundamental reasons why. It’s not because they’re great coaches. They ARE great coaches, but that’s not the reason people pay them so well, particularly if you think back to their beginnings.
They’re paid well because they understand how to speak to people’s pain.
Watch the video and you’ll see how to shift the focus away from them, which leads to you believing that you could never do what they do, and onto the way they SERVE their clients and prospective clients.
What they do is brilliant, and they each are brilliant, but they don’t have exclusivity on that kind of brilliance! We can all do this!
