as long as we have the decision that we’re not responsible it’s not our fault we can’t change anything we have no power changing is not easy but changing your life changing habits reinventing yourself yeah picking yourself up after life has knocked you flat on your back i’ve got to say when life knocked you down try and land on your back because if you can look up you could get up well that sounds cute but that’s not easy where do we get addicted to our problems if you want to make a new choice if you want to make a new decision today if you want to have a breakthrough in some area of your life you got to give up the story that it’s not your fault and you got to give up the attention and the love and the connection and the commiserating that comes with it with other human beings it’s kind of like life is always calling to us to constantly grow and improve you know if you’re going to look at what’s going to make life work it’s really simple what makes people happy is progress we’re happy when we’re progressing if you’re overweight but you leave today with this breakthrough thing when i got today for me more anything else is i’ve been stuck waiting for some magical diet some magical exercise time some magical time in the future when i have more time there is more than no more time i don’t need to wait for that i’m just going to make a decision today to get started i don’t need to go out there and go interview 20 trainers and get online i don’t need somebody to give me a perfect plan i used to pick up my shoes and start walking i need to just get somebody behind me who just goes run i don’t need to wait for perfection i’m gonna do something right now i choose to get fit i choose to walk i choose to run i choose to go join a club i’m doing it now a breakthrough happens the moment you make a new choice and you don’t have to wait you can just get yourself in a new state maybe this tape will get you doing or just have to have a new thought that says you know what i made choices in the past i’m overweight because i chose to eat this and this i’m not going to eat it anymore i’m changing now you can change your whole life real fast with just a few choices but if you don’t make the right choices eventually you’re going to face a crisis crisis is when you made so many poor choices that sooner or later life shows up and instead of asking gently for you to change and improve to grow to make progress to be happy life when it’s a crisis now demands change it isn’t asking anymore we borrowed money as a society and we overspent and we talked about changing and we knew we had to change and now crisis happens and guess what nobody has a choice the game has changed and what crisis does is it melts us down it melts us down so that we can recast our life we can re-mold ourselves and usually on the other side our life is greater because as we go through that crisis we have to grow nobody everybody wants change nobody wants to do it everybody i should say wants progress but nobody wants to change everybody wants their life better but nobody wants to do the push-ups the running have the economic or emotional discipline to make it happen but if you’re watching this right now and you’re still with me some part of you wants more and i’m saying to you choose it and the way you’re going to choose it is really simple if you’re in that crisis what keeps you in the crisis is probably because you’re being reinforced most people they over eat or they smoke or they drink or they yell at people they keep doing it because they’re rewarded whatever gets rewarded gets reinforced whatever habit or behavior is reinforced becomes a habit and pretty soon do it long enough it becomes part of your personality and pretty soon you think it’s who you are you just keep living that way i believe that most human beings are only living at about 40 of their capability so the mine has a governor like a car if you’re driving a car and the car has a governor on it the car may say 130 miles an hour but the governor set for 91.
once that governor sets in you get to 91 that car starts doing this the car wants to go the car wants to go but that factory said uh-uh we’re not going past 91. we have a factory a nice governor in our brain and it’s a survival mechanism it protects us from pain and suffering the second we feel that our mind says oh no this isn’t fun we should back off we should sit down find something more comfortable and there’s something about the mind the mind has the tactical advantage over you at all times at all times of your life the mind has a tactical advantage over you why is that it knows what you’re afraid of it knows your insecurities it knows your deep dark lies and it starts to push you away from that it pushes you in a direction that is comfortable the mind controls everything so what i realized was that when i was growing up and i was 300 pounds and i got all fat and i got all insecure i realized that my mind kept taking me in this direction when things got uncomfortable for me when i was facing my insecurities i was facing my fears my mind said oh no we have a tactical advantage we need to get you separate you from this feeling this feeling over your life’s all about feelings we want the happy feeling we don’t want that feeling of this sucks why am i here and you don’t have any so you can’t answer those questions so you leave i started realizing that if in that moment you can answer those fucked up questions and you are now in charge of your brain versus your brain ruling you that’s where all that stuff comes from so so the 40 rule is all of that you get to 40 your brain says we’re done let’s roll man this is starting to get painful this is uncomfortable so you sit down you have to figure out ways and everybody’s different that’s how the book kind of talks about like we all have these things about you know five steps to this and four steps to this it’s it’s a lot more than that that’s all bullshit it’s it’s a practice that you have to it’s a habit so if you know that at 40 i’m still you know i’m feeling pain at 40 i’m feeling pain that’s where the 40 rule kicks in now it starts okay i’m feeling pain my mind’s saying all this to me it’s saying get out of here run flee the fight or flight kicks in okay we’re done we’re not good enough it starts telling you all these things you start to believe it because the mind controls all this is the time where you have to gain control back of your mind it’s okay let me see if i can go 45 and once you start giving yourself more and more hope and start realizing okay the mind starts to be okay what are you doing we’re supposed to be going right and you’re going left you start then controlling your mind start finding more in you know in yourself and it goes from 40 to a lot further than that but that’s the start of it though get to get to the spot where your mind is saying stop wherever that is you gotta get there first and then that’s when that starts to work for you you gotta control yourself in that moment you gotta start diving into those things that you’re afraid of you don’t gain confidence by going to the spot that makes you feel good it’s gonna be a false reality and the second life gives you that challenge all you want to do is go back to what makes you confidence or or or what gave you confidence is that happy spot now what gives you confidence what gave me confidence was spending years at a kitchen table trying to learn how to read and write on my own realizing i can’t learn the way you learn i can’t but i can learn what gives you confidence not being afraid it’s overcoming the fear isis stutters severely bad so right now i don’t know how many people are going to watch this you know what gives me confidence is knowing i no longer care if i sit or start stuttering to you yeah that’s what gives me confidence is facing these things overcoming them and maybe not overcoming them every day but facing them and facing their face and preaching like this you know what man this is where it’s at it’s not in that comfort zone it’s in the discomfort zone is where my confidence is getting built mm-hmm that’s where it’s getting built but people want to they want an easier answer yeah there has to be an easier way there’s not i’m sorry i searched for it my entire life crises happen whatever type of crisis you go through in your life and i know you’ve had many when we make some choices unconsciously and we get consequences and we make them unconsciously because we’re trying to get what we want we don’t really know what we value most we don’t know what we need and we find ourselves waking up one day going why is my life this way i’m really good at creating an enemy i’m really good at at creating something that i’m against and i’m also good at if you ever tell me something that i cannot do i’m gonna let you know that i’m doing it somehow somehow you’re gonna know one way or another that i’m doing it it may not be like in your face it may i may make sure that i run across the daggone world so then it’s on the news and you turn the news on say how the hell did he do that i want to do something that you know i’m here i’m here at the end of the day life is a fight for territory and once you start fighting for what you want that you don’t want will automatically take over and so it’s a fight it’s a challenging life every day and what we have to do is embrace it what we have to do is see it as a project to be worked on i’ve read something once that i live by said in life you will always be faced with a series of god-ordained opportunities brilliantly disguised as problems and challenges and so i see even cancer as a gift as a god ordained opportunity
