Daily Inspirational Video 78- Aaron Rosheim
[Music]
hey everybody thanks for checking in
this is mr. Boyd with the inspirational
video of the day today my guest speaker
is my cousin Aaron Roche I’m he’s
serving in the Iowa National Guard he’s
been serving the in the United States
Army for 17 years he’s had three
deployments to the Middle East and one
to Eastern Europe he flies Black Hawk
helicopters and he now is the head
recruiter at Iowa State through with the
ROTC and he’s had a lot of success and
his video today is a great little lesson
that I have not heard of I’m really
excited for you guys to hear it it’s
called being rigidly flexible and he
talks about how it was not his plan to
get into the army and to do all of these
amazing things and he was rigid with his
beliefs and his morals but flexible with
his path and it reminded me of when I
got the job here at West Sioux I got it
very late and I wasn’t planning on
getting it and my plan was to work here
a few years and then and then kind of
move on and and as you guys can see you
got stuck with me my plan was was there
was a bigger plan at play and I’m so
glad that I’m still here and so he’s
absolutely right sometimes you got to be
rigid with your morals and with your
character but flexible with some of the
other things so Thank You Aaron for
sending me this video I loved watching
it and listening to it and I think
everyone else will too but I really
appreciate you taking the time to do
this this is Aaron Roshan my cousin with
the inspiration of the day

hi everyone my name is Aaron Jerome and
I are cousins of some sort I’m not
exactly sure what the official title
would be but I just call him cousin I’ve
been watching these inspirational videos
as I’m sure you have as well and to me I
look forward every day to see the next
one who’s going to be next
and so when Jerome asked me to
participate in this I was super excited
and honored to be part of this I hope
something that I can share with you
today will give you some sort of
inspiration
I’m the full-time recruiting officer for
Army ROTC at Iowa State University and I
also fly helicopters and lead soldiers
in the Army National Guard
rewind to when I was 18 year old coming
out of high school and I had no concept
of what my future held and what I
planned on doing after high school and
into the future as I wrote my own movie
trailer and on being a high school
history teacher and a coach and winning
state championships like Jerome and
people there at West Sioux do all the
time and being in the someday an Iowa
High School Athletic Association Hall of
Fame well it’s been quite a while now
and I haven’t done really any of that
because when I was in college I decided
to join the army and that was not
something that I had originally thought
of even going back to those days in high
school not something my friends would
have thought of not something my parents
thought of to me that just didn’t fit in
my movie trailer but over the course of
time through college my plans changed
and one thing that I can look back on
now in my life and see is that being
rigidly flexible with my life has
enabled me to experience so many things
that never would thought would have had
happened to me and enabled me to have
opportunities that have shaped me for
who I am today let me talk more about
that the concept of being rigidly
flexible seems quite a bit of a conflict
but the idea there is that you should
have goals you should have plans for
your future you should be a good steward
of your talents and your passions as you
go forward in life
choose a major have a plan go get some
training learn something new and give it
a try that’s the part of being rigid and
saying I’m going forward with this and
I’m staying committed to it but also
it’s really important that we stay
flexible within that pathway because
other opportunities arise all the time
and we need to be adaptable to handle
those opportunities and changes
sometimes things that we don’t plan on
like kovat 19 give us perhaps a setback
but also an opportunity maybe an
opportunity to make a change in career
path and for me that happened early on
in college where I had the opportunity
to join the military and after a long
review I decided to do it and it’s
become a lifelong adventure now and Here
I am nearly 17 years later I’ve had the
opportunity to fly helicopters jump out
of airplanes travel the world and it’s
been quite the thrill and quite the
experience that has shaped me and my
family where we are today and so what I
would tell you as you go forward into
your life and you look at the future
whether that’s what is high school hold
for me what is college what is a
vocational school what is my full-time
job hold for me I would just encourage
you to be rigidly flexible as you
experience that for me I’ve tried to
live my life by three simple yet
important values that’s faith family and
function and for me as a teenager that
function was football in sports I didn’t
really have much else on my plate but
that’s changed it became college it
became education it became a career path
that became the military and now for me
that function is handing that off as a
leader to inspire others to do the same
and recruit others to join me on my team
and that self function can change that’s
where a lot of that flexibility can
happen I choose to be rigid in my faith
and rigid in my family values but then
beyond that I can be open to other
opportunities as they come up and that’s
really had a huge success in my own life
and given me opportunities to do that
but it doesn’t come easy
and I had to face those with some
uncertainty but those changes have
really given me the opportunity to grow
and to thrive in these years and so as
you go forward and you look to the
future look for those opportunities be
rigid in your goals be rigid in your
preparation be rigid in your studies but
be flexible to the opportunities that
life will give you and I hope for you
that gives you wonderful chances to grow
and develop and thrive as you look to
the future so as we look beyond these
tough times I encourage you to be
rigidly flexible thanks for letting me
be a part of this and thanks Jerome hope
you guys continue this series for a long
time to come see ya
